Education
We welcome you and your family to Church School at All Souls Congregational Church. Whether you are a new visitor to this beautiful place of worship or a long and trusted friend, we hope that this site might prove useful to you in explaining some of the details, logistics, and policies of the church school program. We encourage you to take a few minutes to review this material as you consider placing your child with us this year.
The Board of Christian Education feels strongly that a firm grounding in the basic beliefs, rituals, and principles of our Christian faith is tremendously important as a first step of a life-long faith journey. The church should be a welcoming place, a place full of smiles, songs, and nurturing encouragement. We hope that we can share that spirit with you and your child as we work together.
One thing is sure; we will need your help in meeting our mission. As you review this site, we hope that you might think of ways that you might contribute to the success of our growing program, and that you might prayerfully consider joining us as a volunteer. You will see that there are many ways to help. We’d love to have you join us in this most joyful and rewarding task.
Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19: 14, NIV) We look forward to working with you and your family as we extend, support, and nurture that wonderful invitation.
In Confirmation and in our teaching, we use the Catechism adopted by the 210 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA. The theologian who lead the forming and adoption of this Catechism is Dr. George Hunsinger. Dr. Hunsinger was Professor of Systematic Theology at Bangor Theological Seminary. He is now a distinguished member of the theology faculty at Princeton Theological Seminary. The Catechism has been characterized as an expression of "generous Orthodoxy".
