The Miracles Window

Four of the Miracle Windows had to be moved from south wall of the sanctuary to allow for the new church addition in 2006.  They were reinstalled in the vestry with artificial lighting behind them.

As you enter the vestry the pair of windows at the right are devoted to Miracles related to the Master's power over nature: The Miraculous Draught of Fishes and the Stilling of the Storm. In the first, the figure of Jesus is symbolized in the boat with James and John, the sons of Zebedee, as he speaks to Simon, Jesus said unto Simon, “Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men." (Luke 5:10) In the second, Jesus stands in the boat, gesturing to the waves as he says to the disciples, "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" (Mathew 8:26) The memorial inscription for this group is, IN MEMORY OF ETHYL FIELD SANGER, 1879-1927.

The pair of windows directly in front as you enter the vestry symbolize the Healing of the Man at the Pool of Bethesda, Jesus saith unto him, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." (John 5:8) and the Feeding of the Five Thousand, "He blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples." (Mathew 14:19) The inscription is, IN MEMORY OF CALDWELL SWEET, 1850-1928, AND HIS WIFE, NELLIE KEITH SWEET, 1861-1944.

The central three windows of the original group of seven windows remain in place, but are no longer lighted with the direct outdoor light. They are devoted to Miracles of Healing. First is the Healing of the Deaf and Dumb Man, "He maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak." (Mark 7:37) In the background the Sea of Galilee and the coasts of Decapolis are symbolized. The second is the Healing of the Blind Man, "And he was restored, and saw every man clearly." (Mark 8:25) The third is the Healing of the Two Blind Men, "Thou son of David, have mercy upon us." (Mathew 9:27) This group bears the memorial inscription CLOUGH.
