Kay Byther Eames has served as our Music Director for over 40 years, leading the Senior Choir, Youth Choir, and the Arlan A. Baillie Steinway Piano Series.

Kay Byther Eames, Music Director

 

Kay Byther Eames has served All Souls Church as Music Director since 1974, and as organist since 1982. She directs the Senior Choir, supervises Youth Choir activity, and coordinates the Arlan A. Baillie Steinway Piano Series of events. The series includes concerts by invited guest artists, student performances, and piano master classes. Mrs. Eames teaches piano, organ, and voice, does some composing and arranging, and has a special interest in teaching music reading to adults. 

 

She began her music career as music supervisor in the Bangor public schools. She directed the Landlords, a local men’s a cappella singing group, for 14 years. In the summer of 2001 she was asked to accompany the St. John’s Episcopal Church Choir of Bangor during their tour of England. There she played organs in several cathedrals and churches, including St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

 

Mrs. Eames holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from the Northern Conservatory of Music in Bangor, and a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Maine, Orono. She also received a Master of Arts in Speech/Language Pathology, which included training in voice production and function, and articulation of speech sounds. She also worked as a licensed speech/language pathologist for a number of years in the Bangor schools.

 

Mrs. Eames holds the Associate Certificate of the American Guild of Organists, has twice been dean of the Bangor Chapter, and currently serves as secretary. She is a member of the Maine Music Teachers’ Association and a member of the American Choral Directors’ Association.
