The DaPonte String Quartet with Pianist George Lopez | April 30

The DaPonte String Quartet is coming to Bangor!

Based in southern Maine, the members of this quartet will be appearing at All Souls Church on Sunday, April 30 at 2:00 in the afternoon, with pianist George Lopez as special guest artist. Lopez has been featured around the world as solo recitalist, soloist with orchestra, and chamber music performer. He is the Beckwith Artist-in-Residence at Bowdoin College.

They will be performing Brahm’s Piano Quintet in F Minor; the ingenious and fiery Arcadiana by British composer Thomas Ades; and Barber’s famous Adagio from his String Quartet Opus 11. As a program of the Arlan A. Baillie Steinway Series at All Souls Church, admission to this concert is free. A reception will follow the program.

The DaPonte String Quartet is celebrating its 25th year as a quartet. It moved to Maine from Philadelphia 20 years ago as part of a temporary rural residency grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America. It fell in love with Mid-Coast Maine and decided to stay. Last year it was voted the “Best Musical Group in Maine” by readers of DownEast Magazine—perhaps because it is unique in performing year round and state-wide while also maintaining a touring schedule that has included over 20 states, two continents, and such venues as Carnegie Hall. The DaPonte was recently awarded the 2106 Fellows in Performing Arts by the Maine Arts Commission. They have also recorded three CD’s. Their fourth-- of Beethoven’s Opus 132 and Mendelssohn’s Opus 13--is due out soon. Learn more about the DSQ at their website, www.daponte.org.
